The Aultman Cancer Center and Family Medicine of Carrollton are hosting a free wellness and cancer screening event Friday, Oct. 7 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Aultman Carrollton.
The Aultman Wellness and Cancer Screening Day will include free screenings for both men and women. Men's screenings include prostate, colon and skin. Breast, cervical, colon and skin cancer screenings are available for women.
"Early detection is key in the fight against many diseases, including cancer," said Erin Meek, oncology-certified nurse with the Aultman Cancer Center. "Our event offers underinsured people in the Carroll County area the opportunity to get essential screenings and take a more active role in their health."
The Aultman Cancer Center team will also provide educational information on everything from cancer prevention to healthy eating.
Aultman Working on Wellness (WOW) representatives will also be on-site, offering free blood pressure checks and smoking cessation information. "Smoking has been linked to cancers of the lung, kidney, bladder and cervix, while smokeless tobacco increases your risk of oral and pancreatic cancers," Meek shared. "A certified tobacco treatment specialist will be at this wellness event, discussing the risks of tobacco use and providing information on Aultman's free /Give It Up' tobacco cessation program."
The site of the 2016 Wellness and Cancer Screening Day is Aultman Carrollton, located at 1020 Trump Road NW in Carrollton.
Appointments are required for the free screenings and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 330-363-6025 to register.
