Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia will hold a door-to-door food collection in the village of Magnolia on Sept. 12 from 6-8 p.m. Church members, assisted by the Magnolia Methodist Church youth group, will gather donations of canned or boxed food to give to the Helping Hands Network. Residents can place bagged food outside their front door that evening by 6 p.m. The collections is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's annual "God's Work, Our Hands" day of service. Lutheran congregations all over the country are encouraged to love and serve God and God's people by sponsoring a service event. In the last two years, their groups have collected a total of more than 1,700 pounds of food for Helping Hands.

Waco Epworth United Methodist Church will hold its monthly spaghetti dinner on Sept. 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Spaghetti, salad, bread, beverage and ice cream will be served. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Carry-out will be available.

The menu for Sept. 5-9 is as follows:

Monday: All sites closed for Labor Day

Tuesday: Salisbury steak, skin on mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, wheat bread, juice, brownie, animal crackers

Wednesday: Baked turkey ham, oven browned potatoes, green beans, dinner roll, mandarin oranges

Thursday: Sloppy Joe on bun, au gratin potatoes, buttered corn, fruit juice, cookie

Friday: Roast pork with sauerkraut, garlic mashed potatoes, buttered peas, wheat bread, applesauce
