/ Alex Loy and his students created a fantastic art gallery at the end of May, displayed in the halls at the Foltz Community Center, and they are hoping to continue this endeavor again soon.

/ If you would like to fly the American Flag on special occasions, you can accomplish that by placing your order through your local rotary. They will come and install a base for your flag, and place it there for five different flag days every year. The cost is $25. Call Tom Sherer to order your flag at 388-488-1224.

/ Bill and Nancy Farber hosted the third annual family reunion of Bill's first cousins. Eighteen cousins (and spouses) attended, as well as five aunts and uncles--all descendants of Elijah and Edna Baum.

/ The Crowe family held their family reunion last Sunday at Sandy Valley Community Park. A great time was had by all who attended, including a water balloon toss!

/ Congratulations to Sarah Hager whose son, Jonah Oliver was born at 1:32 a.m. on Aug. 19 (my birthday!). He weighed in at 7 lbs. 15 oz and was 19 inches long. Proud grandparents are Kim Hager and Chief Jeff Hager. Proud great-grandparents are John and Veda Herstine and Barb Hager.

/ The QUAD Ambulance Association is selling lottery tickets for the month of September. The cost is $5 a ticket and 30 chances to win! Every night in September if your numbers are pulled for the evening Ohio Lottery Pick 3, you win!

That includes $50 a night Monday-Saturday and $100 on Sundays. If you are interested in buying a ticket, stop by the station, or ask any QUAD employee. Thank you for your support.

/ Don't forget about the Magnolia Historical Society's September basket raffle. They have some great baskets, and will give one away every day in September. For tickets, contact Janet Rogers at 330-866-9744 or Paula Tolin at 330-866-5300. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.

/ Helping Hands Network is participating in the ACME Cash Back charitable program. Grocery receipts dated August 11, 2016 through Dec. 31, 2016 are acceptable. Please save your receipts and turn them into Helping Hands by January 15, 2017. Receipts can be dropped off at the network Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or sent to the network at PO Box 595, Waynesburg, OH 44688. / The Magnolia Lions are sponsoring a fundraiser, Friday, Aug. 26 from 4-6 p.m., at the Sandy Valley High School Wellness Center. The cost is $10. Choices are either pulled pork or creamy chicken sandwich with two sides, baked beans and cole slaw. Pre-sale tickets are available from Lion Club members. Take out is available

/ As parents send their kids to or back to college (which is not an easy thing to do even the second time around), consider getting them a subscription of The Press-News sent to them at school so they can keep in touch with their hometown.

/ This month's Hometown Hero is Jaret Oliver, a 2016 Sandy Valley graduate and son of Tom Oliver and Elaine Oliver. Jaret is currently in basic training. For safety reasons, I will not be publishing his address, but please pray for him. If you would like his address, please contact his mother for the information

/ The St. James Italian Festival will be Sept. 10 from noon.-9 p.m. The festival will have a wine contest. There will be a red and white catagory. Enter your wine that day. Wine must be homemade. Bring three bottles (same kind) to be judged. You may enter in both catagories.

/ Happy 30th wedding anniversary to Doug and Michelle Wagner on Aug. 23.
