Canton South Church of the Nazarene will hold a community back-to-school block party on Aug. 27 from noon-4 p.m. Activities include a bounce house, dunk tank, games, face painting, caricatures and Christian music. Free hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, sno-cones and snacks will be available. Free notebooks, pencils and erasers will also be available.


The Magnolia United Methodist Church chancel and bell choirs practice each Thursday evening. The bell choir practices at 6 p.m. with the chancel choir following at 7 p.m. The choir is on break for the summer, but those who are interested in joining are asked to contact Tom Remark before Labor Day. No previous experience is necessary.

The menu for Aug. 22-26 is as follows:

Monday: Chicken cacciatore, buttered noodles, green beans, juice, fruit cocktail

Tuesday: ham salad on croissant, corn relish, potato salad, pears, granola bar

Wednesday: Johnny Marzetti, green beans, cauliflower, juice, fresh fruit

Thursday: Chuckwagon steak with country gravy, red skin potatoes, wax beans, dinner roll, pears

Friday: Roast pork, au gratin potatoes, buttered peas, dinner roll, applesauce.

Margarine is served with all breads. Milk choices include skim, 2 percent or chocolate. All canned fruits are packed in juice
