/ Twenty years ago this week: The class of '41 held their 55th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 10. They had 56 reservations. Also 20 years ago Aug. 15, the Canton South AARP No. 4885 went on a bus tour to the Palace of Gold in West Virginia.

/ Upcoming events at the Foltz Community Center, located at 224 N. Wood Street in East Canton, are as follows. AARP will meet Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 11:30 a.m. The menu will include lasagna, vegetable and tossed salad. Following lunch, enjoy Richie Myers singing his favorites including old and new songs. If you are not a member, come for lunch. The cost is $7. Enjoy the entertainment, meet other members, and hopefully join AARP. Are you a member already? Join the East Canton chapter. Meetings, with lunch and entertainment, are held each month. For more information, call 330-488-0092. A Swiss steak dinner is set for Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 4:30-7 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-10 and ages two and under are free. Carry out will be available. Join your friends for Sunday Brunch on Sunday, Aug. 21 from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children and free for ages two and under. The American Legion will host an all-you-care-to-eat pancakes from 7-10:30 a.m. on Saturday The cost is $6 for adults $4.50 for children ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under. The Rotary Club of East Canton invites all residents to join them every Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30 a.m. New members are always welcome to attend and learn what's going on in your town, and of course enjoy a great breakfast. / Nancy (Hahn) Farber recently had a chance to visit with her college roommate from 47 years ago. She and Bonnie (Grimes) Parenti are still great friends.

/ After studying abroad in Spain for the month of July, our daughter Erika has now returned to the states. We met her off the flight in Toronto, Canada, having spent a few days prior in Niagara Falls seeing the sites. My husband, Bob, and daughter, Alexis, braved the zipline over the Falls. I took pictures and stayed on land. The beautiful sites of God's creation are definitely worth the trip.

/ Congratulations to Pastor Miguel Acosta who has accepted a call to be the full time pastor at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. He is very excited about being involved in the Sandy Valley Community.

/ Canal Days will be held Friday-Sunday. Be sure to look in this week's issue for a list of all the events planned for Canal Days. Fly your flags, participate in all that you can, and enjoy the weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped to organize and volunteer to make this year's festivities enjoyable for all.
