Donald and Carol Moriconi were honored on June 26 in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary at La Pizzeria in Canton.
The couple was married at St. James Catholic Church on June 25, 1966. The following people were members of the wedding party: Donna Robinson and the late Tim Robinson, sister and brother-in-law of the bride and Anna Vodopich and the late John Vodopich, sister and brother-in-law of the groom.
Don (Doc) was born in 1938 to the Italian immigrant family of Pietro Moriconi and Nancy Bersaglini of Lucca and Palermo, Italy.
Carol was born in 1946 into an Irish family of Elmer Long and Mary Reed and was the oldest of 12 siblings.
The couple has been active members of St. James Church for 32 years.
Doc has always loved baseball and has hit many home runs. His passion for baseball led him in his early 20s to single-handedly build a baseball park in rural Carrollton for area children to enjoy.
Many precious memories were made at "Doc's" baseball field.
Carol has been a volunteer since she was a young adult assisting struggling area families. She adopts multiple families at Christmas time and makes sure many needy children go to school with new shoes, coats and the necessary supplies.
Over the years, they were very involved in their children's lives encouraging and supporting their activities in baseball, football, music, dance, band and college.
They coached the Colton girls softball teams for eight years leading to a state championship in 1980.
Both Don and Carol enjoy gardening, traveling and volunteering.
Doc won many bowling trophies over the thirty years he bowled and is most proud of the 1977 trophies for the high series of 277 and MVP bowler.
Carol won the Star Performer Award at Timken Mercy Hospital many times over her 43 year tenure. This award is for demonstrating outstanding performance, being a team player, going above and beyond, being creative and innovative and for championing service excellence.
Carol retired in 2015 from Timken Mercy Medical Center where she worked in the pediatric CCU department for 43 years.
Donald retired from Whitacre Greer Fireproofing in 1986 after 27 years. He then retired from the Dollar Store Corporation in 2006 after 20 years of service.
This couple has 3 children, Julie (Raymond) Miller of Magnolia, Michael (Diane) Moriconi of Waynesburg and Donald (Rachael) Moriconi of Waynesburg.
They are blessed with 11 grandchildren: Alex, Nicholas, Brooke and Emily Miller, Jacob, Brennen and Samuel Moriconi and Kriston, Marissa, Lucas and Jianna Moriconi.
