East Sparta council places levy on ballot

EAST SPARTA-- Village council members during their July 18 meeting passed a resolution to place a police levy on the November ballot.

According to the Stark County Board of Elections website, the 3-mill additional levy will be for five years.

Council members held a lengthy discussion regarding the enforcement of a village curfew. Officials noted the Pokemon Go game has become an issue. Council members also received a police action report which included seven traffic citations and 10 calls for service.

In parks business, council members heard a recent night swim at the Sandy Valley Community Park and Pool went well, and a $510 deposit was made after expenses were paid. Park board members would like to have another swimming party in the future. Council members heard wages have become an issue with nobody taking lifeguard positions because of the wages.

In other business, council members:

/ DISCUSSED chip and sealing roads. Village officials noted Pine, Hilltop, Newman, Ash and the road by the Sandy Valley Community Park and Pool are among those with the biggest need;

/ PASSED a resolution regarding additional appropriations for 2016.
