The Village of East Canton "Adopt a Flower Bed Project" is still going strong since its inception in the spring of 2004.

The village began the project, inviting individuals, families, community organizations, and businesses to become part of the "Adopt a Flowerbed Project."

Volunteers are asked to provide care in planting, watering and weeding areas in the village, including the park, village hall and the flower urns that line Nassau Street.

Sponsors are also welcome to provide the flowers for the beautification of these areas. Response to the project continues to be overwhelming, village officials say, as many folks step forward to become part of the effort.

In East Canton's Village Park, volunteers include Genny Miller, Flo Lillie, Shirley and Dick Offineer, Joel Schmucker, Barbara Hall, Nancy Branch and children and Girl Scout Troop No. 60360 led by Vickie Shearer. Kim and Diane Moody take care of the flower urns that line Nassau Street.

Area sponsors are Expresso Pizza, Douglas Flowers, Heartfelt Flowers and Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church Women's Group who generously donated flowers. Markers were placed in each flowerbed with the names of the volunteers and sponsors.

The plaques were donated by Heartfelt Flowers and painted by Jenise Marshall.
