The 2016 Canal Days Photography Contest is fast approaching.
The categories this year are Nature I (plants, including landscapes), Nature II (animals, including insects), Autumn, Motion, Funny Moments, and Windows.
Photos must be taken by the entrant and there is a limit of one entry per photographer per category. The entry fee is $1 per photograph. Entry forms are available at Taggarts Restaurant in Magnolia, the Sandy Valley Branch Library on Route 800, and the Coates' residence at 2180 Battlesburg St. SW in East Sparta (box on porch).
Photographs must be 8 inches by 10 inches color or black and white. Entry forms must not be attached to the photo and photographs should not be mounted on anything.
Entries may be dropped off at the library, Taggarts, or Coates' residence. Entries must be received by Tuesday, Aug. 9, by 11 a.m.
All entries will be judged by Sandy Valley art teachers Kaila Bigler, Lori Sprang, and Greg Donahue. Decisions of the judges will be final.
Photographs will be on display at the Sandy Beaver Canal Days festival in the lower pavilion at Magnolia Park. Prizes will be awarded on Saturday, Aug. 13, around 6:30 p.m. at the grandstand.
There are prizes to be won. Last year, the winning photographers received many different prizes from area businesses such as Taggarts, Ruegg Brothers Automotive, Cibos, EmbroidMe, West End Pizza, Tangles Design Team, Ink Monkey, and Crossroads Restaurant. All entrants will receive a coupon for an ice cream cone at Taggarts.
