SANDY TWP. / The Mohawk Valley Joint Fire District has been seeking price quotes for six tires for Tanker 114.

Fire Chief Jim Marraccini said the district received a quote of $3,990 for six Goodyear tires and a quote of $1,470 for six off-brand tires.

Marraccini added the district has looked into state pricing for the tires.

"There are only certain vendors that you can use," he said.

According to Marraccini, a qualified vendor would provide a chart detailing the state pricing.

The chief noted the district also will purchase used rims for the tanker at $30 each. The truck currently has split rims, which have been discontinued because of dangers.

Marraccini noted the 2016 grant application period is approaching.

The 2015 grant period still is open.

Gatchell Grant Resources last fall submitted grants for the fire district for $425,000 grant for vehicle acquisition and $325,000 for safety gear and equipment.

The fire district paid $1,300 for the grant-writing services. If the grant proposals are unsuccessful, Gatchell will re-file the grants in 2016 at no additional cost to the fire district.
