The Hub Art Factory of the Downtown Canton Arts District, located at 336 6th St. NW just two blocks from the Palace Theater, invites the public to view a new art show for the upcoming First Friday event, July 1, 5-10 p.m.

"Mother Goose Land Revisited: Art of the Canton Landmark" is a look back at the historic children's theme park from Canton, Ohio.

The art show features the work of Sandy Valley graduate David McDowell and twenty-two artists active in the North East Ohio arts scene.

Artist and curator David McDowell is most known for in this area for his aluminum and stained-glass Heritage Tree sculpture in front of Sandy Valley High School.

McDowell has commemorated former attractions of the Mother Goose Land (such as Willy the Whale and Three Blind Mice) into a set of six 5-by-7 inch hand sculpted picture frames. Each is available to order and cast in aluminum, in an edition of no more than 500, as well as a 50-page adult coloring book of Mother Goose Land-theme images.

On July 1, starting at 5 p.m., six Mother Goose Land carnival style photo backdrops will be distributed outdoors in the Canton Arts District.

Visitors are encouraged to take their picture in front of each backdrop with their smartphones and bring the pictures to the Hub Art Factory during the July 1 First Friday events.

Participants will then be entered to win a free drawing to win a cast glass picture frame of Willy the Whale, of which only two will be made available to the public. Viewers can also receive additional tickets in the drawing for any purchases made at the show.

More than 50 pieces of art will available for viewing and purchase during the show along with Mother Goose Land adult coloring books illustrated by David McDowell for only $10.

Pre-orders can be placed for the coloring book and the cast aluminum picture frames online at mothergooselandrevistied.com.

Ten percent of every sale will go to the Canton Parks Department to install permanent musical percussion instruments on the newly refurbished grounds of Mother Goose Land Park.

The Friday Night will also feature live music by the blues-rock band Byke and percussionist Elec Simon in the outdoor garden of The Hub Art Factory.
