CANTON TWP. -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a crash that occurred at 4:10 p.m., on new year's day.

The happened on state Route 800 southbound about one tenth of a mile south of mile post 6.

According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release, the crash happened when a blue 1995 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Amber R. Hall of Magnolia lost control. The car slid across the center line directly into the path of a southbound tan 2002 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Melissa L. Haney, 45, of East Sparta. The Chevrolet was struck on the passenger side and pushed off the west side of the roadway.

Hall was transported from the scene by the Canton Township Fire Department to Aultman Hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

It is unknown if Hall was wearing her safety belt, but Haney's safety belt was in use when the crash occurred.
