Low-income families can receive help for an Affordable Christmas

Published:

CANTON - Lower income families will have the opportunity to shop for toys, gadgets and gizmos at one-fourth of their retail cost this Christmas season.

Local nonprofit, Current of Ohio, will sponsor Affordable Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 2.

"We want to empower low-income families during the holidays by helping them provide a wonderful Christmas for their children," says founder and president of Current, Jason Sowell. "Having families purchase items rather than taking a free handout empowers them by allowing them to make an investment in what they give to their children and have the satisfaction that they could provide for them."

This is Current's first year sponsoring Affordable Christmas. Toys for Affordable Christmas are being collected by donation at LoveCanton, and will be sold at one-fourth of their original value at LoveCanton on the evening of Sunday.

"Affordable Christmas is especially empowering for fathers and leaves dignity intact. We want these families to know that they are loved and valued and the hope of Christmas is very real," says Sowell.

Families may participate by referral and must be considered low-income and vouched for through one of Current's partnering sponsor organizations. Local organizations, such as LoveCanton, Love The Children Ministries, CAST of Glenmoor, First Friends Church, Malone University and others, are providing sponsored support for Affordable Christmas.

However, Current is still in need of sponsors, donations and volunteers. Items requested for donation include board games, footballs, purses, shoes, Legos, coloring books and more.

Anyone interested in helping in any of these capacities may see www.Christmasbycurrent.org or contact Corey Easterday at currentofohio@gmail.com or at 727-537-9082.
