EAST CANTON SCHOOLS
On Friday, Nov. 9, veterans, as well as all men and women who are serving in the Armed Forces, are invited to attend a special Veteran's Day service at East Canton High School.
Breakfast will be served to the veterans at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria. An assembly will follow at 9.
Veterans and their guest area asked to be a part of this free breakfast and program. Call the school at 330-388-0334 for more information or to advise of your attendance.
A program is set for Friday, Nov. 9, 9:30 a.m., in the high school gymnasium and all veterans are welcome.
The Posting of Colors will be done by Issac L. Kinney American Legion Post 244 and Sandy Valley American Legion Post 432.
A Veterans Day proclamation will be done by Mason Offenberger, Student Council president. The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Mrs. Jeannette Jernigan, high school science teacher. The choir will perform the National Anthem.
Special speakers will be Edward Lidderdale, as veteran of the United States Army and a retired Sandy Valley social studies teacher; and Patty Main, also a veteran of the US Army, as well as curriculum director for Sandy Valley Schools.
A POW/MIA remembrance will be done by Terry Potter, commander of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post 244.
A "Salute to America's Finest" will be done by Sandy Valley High School Band, directed by Jeff Huston.
A group photo will also be taken of the veterans who will also meet for a reception in the library.
The theme for this year's Veteran's Day event at Faircrest Memorial Middle School is "An All American Picnic." Registration is from 9:30-10 a.m.. The program will be in the gymnasium, and will include a speech by Canton Mayor William Healy. The program is slated to run from 10-11:15.
At 11:30 a luncheon will be served, complete with hot dogs and apple pie. All festivities are free to veterans and their guests.

The Sandy Valley American Legion Post 432 will host its annual Veteran's Day dinner on Monday, Nov. 12, at Crossroads Restaurant in Magnolia. The doors will open at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Girls and Boys Staters will be recognized following the dinner. They are Steffani Dye, Renee Schreffler, Walker Grossman and Kurtis Stanley.
The menu will include baked chicken or chopped sirloin, Normandy blend vegetables, scalloped potatoes, salad, bread, dessert and beverage.
The cost is $10.95 per dinner. Reservations must be to Larry Cross at 330-488-0645 by Nov. 9.
