The Friend-Ship Center celebrates Alice in Wonderland

By Tesa StrasserThe Press-News Published:

During the week of Jan. 23-27, the preschool children of Friend-Ship Child Care Center experienced the enchantment of Alice in Wonderland.

The week topped off with their version of the Mad Hatter's tea party. Each child wore a hat they had made representing one of the characters attending the tea party in the story.

Throughout the week the staff and children had activities related to the classic children's story. They watched the Disney video and read portions of the book.

Sue Neading, director of the program since its creation 12 years ago, expressed great appreciation for the creativity and hard work of her staff to provide this stimulating and enjoyable time for the preschoolers. Neading said, "I have the most amazing staff ever. They are so creative and make each day for these kids incredible. This fun week was all them from top to bottom."

For this special week the entire preschool wing of the North Industry Christian Church was decorated in the wonderland theme.

This is not the only theme week at the Friend-ship Child Care Center. They will soon celebrate the birthday of Dr. Suess with a week of fun dedicated to his works. Mr. Rogers will also be honored as they study his contribution to preschool children. The culmination of that week is a visit by a Mr. Rogers look-alike.

The Friend-Ship Child Care Center provides care for infants and toddlers as well as latchkey and summer programs. The ministry of North Industry Christian Church services 120 children and has a staff of 25.

Many of the staff members have been on board since it opened in 2000. The center cares for children age 6 weeks to 12 years and provides a low teacher to child ratio, home cooked meals and weekly chapel.
