Great Trail Camp

•  The land upon which Great Trail Camp is located was purchased and donated to the Girl Scouts of the Canton Council in 1926 by Mrs. H. H. (Edith) Timken.
• The name Great Trail was taken from the early American Indian east-west trail across Ohio.
• Great Trail Camp was founded in 1951 and has provided troop and individual Girl Scout opportunities since 1953.
• Great Trail Camp is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
• In 1994, the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio South Region had five camp properties available to local Girl Scouts, and in 2009, the South Region has only two camp properties left, Camp Lycopodia (planned to be sold or closed) and Great Trail Camp (planned to be closed).
• All four Girl Scout regions in western Ohio have a camp with either a lake or a swimming pool and all three regions in Ohio’s Heartland Council have a camp.
• Girl Scouts of the USA is encouraging girls to be at the forefront of ecological stewardship by releasing a new set of leadership development “journeys,” and this year’s is titled “It’s Your Planet — Love It,” which introduces girls to a broad range of environmental concerns while empowering them to make an impact in their own communities.
