The Heritage Home Association's Christmas Tour of Homes will run for the 19th straight year when eight unique homes and two historic churches go on display Sunday, Dec. 9, between noon and 5 p.m.
The eight homes, several of which are pre-1900 constructions, are located in Gnadenhutten, New Philadelphia and Uhrichsville. The two historic churches are in Uhrichsville and Gnadenhutten.
Four of this year's tour stops are in the historic village of Gnadenhutten, located on the south side of New Philadelphia. The John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church, located on South Walnut Street, in Gnadenhutten, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
One of the historic homes on the tour, that of Chris and Kelli Edwards is located less than one block from the church. Built in 1852, the Edwards' large two-story frame home is a renovated Moravian parsonage. It was moved to its present site in 1920. The four-bedroom home has undergone many renovations and still features original wooden floors in the living room.
The house is decorated in a Williamsburg Christmas theme with a country motif using fresh pine, fresh fruit, and many permanent decorations. Five trees fill the Edwards home with holiday cheer.
The outside as well as the inside will be decked out for the holidays to greet their guests. As guests leave, they will be led down the brick driveway and will see a winter's view of the English country garden, which is surrounded by a picket fence. The workshop area of this tour-stop home will be open for a comfort stop.
Tour proceeds support historic preservation and restoration efforts of the association in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
