/ Twenty years ago this week: Congratulations were extended to Kent and Robyn Thompson on the birth of their new daughter, Caroline, who was born on Aug. 5. She weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces and joins her big sister, Lucy.

/ The McKinley Rubber Stamp club met Thursday, Sept. 1 at the Arlington Church of God. Judi Nill was in charge of the class. The next meeting of the group will be on Oct. 6. Halloween cards will be made.

/ The Jolly Eight's Card Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Crossroads Restaurant. Lil Heilman will serve as the hostess.

/ East Canton cheerleaders are asking for your support. A quarter auction benefitting them will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25 at East Canton High School's Smith Gym at 310 Browning St. Doors open at 1 p.m. for viewing of auction items and vendor tables. The auction starts at 2 p.m. Five-dollar admission includes one paddle, and additional paddles are $2. A 50//50 drawing and basket raffle will also be held. For more information, call 330-327-8481. Money raised will be used to purchase uniforms and for camp.

/ Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in East Canton hosted a luncheon on Aug. 22 for Superintendent Todd Boggs and 100 staff members from Osnaburg Local Schools. Pastor Tim Monteith prayed for the 2016-2017 school year to be blessed and enriching for all children and staff dedicated to the school district. Mt. Tabor would like to send much thanks to Paul Band for donating two delicious homemade cakes for the teachers' luncheon. It also sent a shout out to Subway in East Canton for supplying the sub sandwiches for this important luncheon.

/ A craft show will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 306 W. Church in East Canton on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 330-488-0189.

/ Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia will hold a Door-to-Door Food Collection in the village of Magnolia on Monday, Sept. 12 from 6-8 p.m. Church members, assisted by the Magnolia Methodist Church Youth Group, will be gathering donations of canned or boxed food to be given to the Helping Hands Network Food Pantry of Waynesburg. Residents can place bagged food outside their front door that evening by 6 p.m. This is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's annual "God's Work, Our Hands" Day of Service. Lutheran congregations all over the United States are encouraged to love and serve God and God's people by sponsoring a service event.

/ The Ohio History Connection will hold a special event on Sept. 18 in the Valley. The following locations will be open for visitation on that day from 1-4 p.m.: the Waynesburg Historical Society at 261 Main Street, Waynesburg; the Log Cabin at the corner of state Route 800 and Westbrook; St. Mary of the Immaculate Church at 8013 Bachelor Road, Waynesburg; the Magnolia Flouring Mill at 261 N. Main St. in Magnolia, the Isaac Miller Inn at 107 S. Main St., the A.R. Elson Victorian Italianate home at 225 N. Main St., and Trinity Lutheran Church at 205 Harrison St.

/ The Sandy Valley class of 1996 will hold its 20 class reunion on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Canton Brewing Company. Contact Lisa Broucker for more information.

/ Mark your calendar for an Open House and Health Fair to be held at QUAD on Oct. 2 from noon-4 p.m. A flu clinic will be held from noon-2 p.m. (Bring an insurance card.) Throughout the day staff will be doing blood pressure checks and blood glucose checks. The Aultman Cardiology and W.O.W. will be on hand. A vehicle extraction demonstration will take place at 2 p.m. Station tours will be given and snacks will be provided by the local 4H.

/ Any Sandy Valley band alumni who would like to participate in this year's Homecoming Game on Oct. 14 are encouraged to check out their Facebook page or contact Melissa Phillips. Practices are Sept. 27, Oct. 5, and Oct. 13 from 7-8 p.m. in the Sandy Valley band room. If anyone needs a sweatshirt, contact Melissa. She will need the size and graduation year.

/ The Pike Township Historical Society will have a yard sale at its log cabin on Thursday, Sept. 22 and Friday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two leather recliners and one electric organ will be available plus many other items.

/ QUAD Ambulance recently held a training day at the station where 3 vehicles were used. First responders were able to use a variety of different techniques to accomplish the goals that were given.

Windows and doors were removed. Dashes were rolled, roofs taken off. They were able to train with a variety of tools including cutters, spreaders, Sawzall, air chisel, ram, cribbing and much more. QUAD has amazing leaders who aren't afraid to step in, teach, demonstrate, and explain new techniques. We are fortunate to have employees who work other jobs and can bring their experiences and knowledge to help keep us all safe.

/ Joe and Martha Spadafora of Fort Wayne, Indiana visited with his mother Jean Sapdafora and family over the Labor Day weekend.

/ The Little Country Church Christian music festival will be Sept. 17 from 3-7 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall.
