/ Twenty years ago this week: Congratulations was extended to Andy Larkins who won first place and received a blue ribbon in the kiddie tractor pull for 0-45 pounds at the Carrollton Fair. Andy enjoyed riding on the rides all afternoon while his mom, Pat got sunburned.

/ The Canton South Class of 1956 will host its 60th class Reunion on Aug. 27 at Skyland Pines. A social hour will begin at 11:00 a.m. and a meal will be served at noon. For more information, call 330-484-1928.

/ Be watching next week for news about the class of 1961 who held their 55th class reunion at McCall's on July 16.

/ On Friday, Aug. 19, the Rotary Club of Canton will host its annual golf outing at the Sanctuary Golf Club located at 2017 Applegrove Street N.W., in North Canton. Each year, the outing brings more than 75 golfers together from many local rotary clubs to participate in a friendly competition, leaving one rotary club with bragging rights for the next year. This is a great day to bring guests or prospective members to see what rotary is all about and meet some of the great people that are involved with Rotary. Old Carolina Barbecue will be enjoyed at noon.

/ The program for the July 29 meeting will be Pro Football Hall of Fame chairman Chip Conde, Queen and Court.

/ To all East Canton residents: The HOPE (Helping Osnaburg Prosper Economically) committee invites vendors, farmers, artisans, local businesses and non profits to take part in the East Canton and Osnaburg Township community market. The market will be located behind the Foltz Community Center on Saturday, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15 from 8 a.m-noon. Some of the items you can sell or buy are fruits, vegetables, eggs, honey, meats, cheeses, baked goods, handmade jams, handmade soaps and candles, arts and crafts, flowers, plants and shrubs. / Everyone is invited to the 19th annual reverse raffle on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Foltz Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour starting at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The grand prize is $2,500. Tickets sold will be limited to 200, so stop in and buy your ticket now. You may also win basket raffles, a live auction (including a trip worth $500) and much more. The cost for a ticket is $55.

/ The Osnaburg Historical Society at the Werner Inn, at the corner of Route 30 and Route 44 will have an open house and an antique road show on Sunday, July 31 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

/ Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia is hosting a one day Bible School on Saturday, July 30, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The theme is Tales of the Sea. There will be games, crafts, songs, stories, snacks, a movie, and lunch for children from age 4 to sixth grade.

/ The Sandy Valley Athletic Booster Club will hold its first meeting for the 2016-17 school year on Monday, Aug. 1. All meetings are held in the high school library at 6 p.m. New members are needed and anyone who supports Sandy Valley athletics is welcome to attend. Many hands might light work!

/ The Sandy and Beaver Canal Days is fast approaching. This year's festivities will be held Aug. 12-14. Hours on Friday night will be 5-9 p.m. On Saturday, hours are 4-9 p.m and on Sunday from 12-7 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Bonnie Welker at 330-866-9288. Donations of time, items, pies and cakes for the eats stand, entries in contests and many others are still needed throughout the weekend.

/ The Miss canal days pageant is being chaired by Kay Costello and Jodi German. They are looking for girls ages 4-7 for Little Miss and ages 7-13 for Jr. Miss for the Aug. 12th contest. Applications are available at Taggarts, the Bank of Magnolia, Studio 54 and the Post Office.

/ The Canal Days Festival Committee would like residents to show their patriotism by flying their flags Aug. 12-14.

/ Contestants are being sought for the Lip Sync Contest to be held at this year's Canal Days. Individuals, duets, groups, young performers, adult performers are asked to participate in the second annual lip sync contest on Aug. 14. Let's show the community your talent. Message Chey Schubert through Facebook if interested.

/ Additional names and addresses are needed for the Hometown Hero Feature. Please contact me if you know of a loved one, even a relative of a Sandy Valley resident, who is currently serving our country.
