/ Twenty years ago this week, Mandi Strobel recently returned after touring Europe, London, Paris and the Netherlands with the International Bands of America. She is the daughter of Rod and Kathy Strobel.

/ The Berger Family Reunion will be held on July 22, 23 and 24 at the home of Deb and Kevin Malavite. Members are coming from Texas, California, Colorado, Michigan and Indiana. These are direct descendents of Bill and Grace Berger, daughter, Dorothy Breniser, W. Jayne Kreider and Carole Nichols.

Then on Wednesday, July 20, plan on attending the Swiss steak dinner from 4:30-7 p.m. The dinner includes a salad bar, bread and butter, dessert, coffee, tea or soft drink. / Pride of our school kids: When you see these students, be sure to say congratulations to scholarship winners: Evan Mayle and Emily Barnes. The recipient of the 2016 Citizen of the year is Lisa Gothard, a teacher at East Canton High School and a National Honor Society advisor. Lisa and the students in the community help others such as seniors with spring planting, fall cleaning and so much more. / AARP will meet Tuesday, July 19. The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be presented by Ron Derry from the Nimishillen Historical Society. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The menu will include meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, applesauce, dessert and drink. For more information, call 330-488-0092.

/ Helping Hands in Waynesburg will hold its monthly clothing give-away this Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Anyone is welcome to take advantage of this opportunity for free clothing. It could be a good way to get some back to school clothes!

/ Donations of school supplies are being collected at the Helping Hands Network to be given to needy children in the Sandy Valley area. Contact the center at 330-866-2005 for a list of most needed items or to arrange a drop off time.

/ Our family, along with my sister Janine and her family, the Albert Woodin family, the Todd Sicakafoose family, the Jeff Ward family, the Shawn Eichelberger family and Riley Benson enjoyed each others' company and the beaches of the Crystal Coast in Emerald Isle last week.

/ Music in the Park will be held each Monday in July at the bandstand in the Magnolia Park. July 18 will be a variety of music, and July 26 will be youth night. The historical society will have food items and drinks for sale. Bring a lawn chair or sit on the benches and enjoy the local talent. Anyone interested in sharing their musical talents is asked to contact Brenda Schreffler at 330- 447-8426.

/ Canal Days is fast approaching. Anyone interested in volunteering, should contact Bonnie Welker at 330-866-9288. Donations of time, items, pies and cakes for the eats stand, entries in contests and many others are still needed throughout the weekend. Hours for Canal Days will be 5-9 on Friday, 4-9 on Saturday, and 12-7 on Sunday.

/ Contestants are being sought for the Lip Sync Contest to be held at this year's Canal Days. Individuals, duets, groups, young performers, adult performers come and participate in the second annual lip sync contest on Aug. 14. Let's show the community your talent. Message Chey Schubert through Facebook if interested.

/ Magnolia Welcome wishes go out to some new residents. The Kyle Davis family has moved into Dick and Audrey Beatty's home on Cline Street. Steve Pollock and his son Gus have purchased the Ralph Spadafora home also on Cline Street. Fred and Diane Deibold are now living on Minerva Road where the Jim Finnicum Family formerly lived. It's great to see so many new families in our area.
