January Aultman Health Talks announced

Aultman Hospital presents the following free Health Talk programs during the month of January.

New in 2013, there will be health talks taking place in Carrollton, at the Aultman Carrollton facility and in Orrville, at Aultman Orrville Hospital.

Jan. 3: Compassionate Journey will be presented by Terry Livengood, M.A., C.T., Pastoral Care at Aultman West, 6-7:30 p.m.

From diagnosis to death, end-of-life issues affect everyone. Learn tips for the dying patient and family to make it a compassionate journey.

Jan. 9: Healthy Weight Loss will be presented by David Speicher, M.S., C.S.C.S., P.E.S., C.E.S. at Aultman Orrville Hospital, 6-7 p.m.

Here is the opportunity to ask Aultman Orrville's exercise expert about exercise, nutrition and weight loss. Come and learn the best ways to achieve optimal health.

Jan. 9: Basics of LASIK will be presented by Sanjeev Dewan, M.D.,Ophthalmologist at Aultman North, 6-7:30 p.m.

Learn about vision correction surgery, used to treat farsightedness. Learn how LASIK eye surgery can reduce the need for glasses.

Jan. 10: Minding Your Health will be presented by Sara Sayre, M.A., Psychology Fellow and Steve Graef, Ph.D., Psychology Fellow at Aultman West, 6-7:30 p.m.

Learn how mind/body medicine can help achieve peace, greater health, happiness and clarity even in the midst of great challenges and difficulties.

Jan. 15: Ring in the New Year with Healthy Eating will be presented by Jennifer Perdue, R.D., Dietitian at Aultman North, 2-3:30 p.m.

If healthy eating is part of a New Year's resolution, come and learn some easy ways to incorporate good nutrition into the daily lifestyle.

Jan. 16: Kick the Tobacco Habit will be presented by Sara Schaub, Tobacco Cessation Specialist at Aultman North, 6-7:30 p.m.

If already having trouble with a New Year's resolution to quit smoking or chewing, come learn tips and how participating in Aultman's free six-week group program will result in success.

Jan. 17: Total Joint Replacement will be presented by Timothy Conlan, M.D., Orthopedic Surgeon at Aultman West, 6-7:30 p.m.

Learn the latest trends in total joint replacement, including minimally invasive and computer-assisted hip and knee replacements.

Jan. 22: 10 Tips to Managing Diabetes will be presented by Liz Heiser, R.N., Certified Diabetes Educator at Aultman West, 2-3:30 p.m.

Diabetes affects an estimated 25.8 million Americans. Complications from diabetes can be devastating. Learn tips to help you get blood sugar under control and keep it under control.

Jan. 23: Adult ADHD will be presented by Mimi Gozdan, R.N. at Aultman North, 6-7:30 p.m.

ADHD is not just a childhood problem. Learn what ADHD looks like in adults and what you can do about it.

Jan. 24: Urinary Incontinence in Women will be presented by Bob Bowden, M.D., Women's Health Services at Aultman Orrville Hospital, 6-7 p.m.

Suffering from urinary incontinence? Learn what to do to prevent and treat the discomfort and distress of this common condition.

Jan. 24: Safety and Security at Home will be presented by Chris Feller, Director of Safety, Aultman Hospital at Aultman West, 6-7:30 p.m.

Come find out why it is so important for everyone to take notice of useful safety and security tips.

Jan. 29: Wicked Winter Woes will be presented by Connie Leggett, R.N. at Aultman Carrollton, 2-3:30 p.m.

Learn about prevention and treatment of winter-related health problems such as the common cold, influenza, H1N1, fever and frostbite for children to seniors.
