MALVERN -- The two sisters who operate the newly opened GG's Coffee House Cafe combine for more than 60 years experience in the restaurant business. More importantly, though, the owners have a love of family, friends and food.

Glenda Drews and Gayle Krepps-- the Gruber sisters, who grew up in Waynesburg-- opened the coffee house, located at 203 N. Carrollton St. (just off state Route 183) about a month ago. It was a dream come true for both women to be able to open up a cafe in the area. The two have completely redesigned the interior of the restaurant, with warm, earthy colors, paintings and coffee decor.

"It is nice having our family-- our mom, brothers, sister and all be able to stop in," said Gayle. "We love being with the family and friends here at the restaurant."

Gayle, who has resided in Florida for the last few years, came back to help open up the business. She has always loved to cook, so she handles a lot of the cooking and baking in the cafe. A brother-in-law of the two, however, makes the breads for the paninis. All the baked goods, which also include cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, blueberry coffee cake, cookies, are homemade.

Paninis include Italian, GG's turkey Reuben, turkey club, ham and cheese and the "Blast from the Past Fried Bologna," which has honey mustard, Velveeta cheese and banana peppers on the homemade sour dough bread. Paninis also come with a side of cole slaw.

Glenda, who has resided in the Minerva/Malvern area for years, takes care of waiting on customers and other duties at GG's. She also raves about her sisters cooking, especially her salads and homemade salad dressings. GG's apple salad includes apples, golden raisins, walnuts, celery and cucumbers, topped with blue cheese and homemade apple vinaigrette. Other salads are GG's chopped salad and Greek salads, which are served with focaccia bread.

Other menu items include wraps, croissants, breakfast sandwiches, assorted pastries, chili and other soups of the day.

Gayle and Glenda, when they started the business, decided to put a lot of work into getting the best coffees possible. They took along a friend, who is a "coffee connoisseur" to help them try various types of coffees. The results of their coffee research has been delightful for those people who love having a great cup of freshly-brewed coffee and a selection from which to choose. A different specialty coffee is highlighted each week, and coffee made from various flavored coffee beans is on the list of options each day.

The coffee selection includes flavored cappuccinos, cafe lattes, Americano, cafe mocha, salted caramel mocha, caramel macchiato, iced lattes, creamy frappes and more. Chai tea, hot chocolate, salted hot chocolate, assorted teas, smoothies and much more are also on the menu. Coffee drink flavors available are chocolate, vanilla, Irish cream, hazelnut, pumpkin spice, white chocolate, salted caramel and caramel. Sugar-free caramel and vanilla is also an option.

The cafe also sells gift items such as bags of coffee and homemade granola and candied pecans.

GG's Coffee House Cafe is open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.

In addition to parking in front of the building, parking is available across Carrollton Street, next to the car wash.
