Stark sheriffs find local businesses in violation of Ohio liquor laws

Published:

On July 6, Stark County Chief Deputy Rick A. Perez reported that the Stark County Sheriff's Office, with grant funding from the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County, conducted alcohol compliance checks throughout Stark County in the months of May and June.

Deputies conducted compliance checks at 70 Stark County Liquor permit establishments. Deputies found 34 liquor permit establishments were summoned to court for Sale of Intoxicating Liquor to a minor.

Chief Deputy Perez commented it is of great concern that approximately 49 percent of the liquor permit establishments checked, failed to be compliant with the state's liquor laws and sold alcohol to underage purchasers. Chief Deputy Perez said deputies will continue to perform compliance checks of Stark County liquor permit establishments in the future.

Chief Deputy Perez said the Ohio Investigative Unit of the Ohio Department of Public Safety has been contacted and the reports of the investigation will be forwarded to them for further investigation of the liquor permit holders.
