If you are tired of traveling to Canton or to New Philadelphia for a great meal in an enjoyable atmosphere, plan your next outing for the Flipside Grille at 10135 Cleveland Ave. South, near the Sandy Valley Community Park.

New owner and head cook, Ben Geiser, managed the eatery for two years when it was Don and Mary's Restaurant and has worked in the restaurant business since age 15. Having grown up in Dellroy, he worked at a pizza shop, The Lighthouse Restaurant and The Atwood Yacht Club, gaining lots of good food wisdom.

"I want this to be a fun, enjoyable place to come for a great meal," said Geiser. He employs 18 people at the restaurant that is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On the menu you will find a wide assortment of options. House specialties include grilled half chicken, barbecue chicken pizza and stir fry. A char-grilled eight-ounce New York strip steak is $9.99, the 12 ounce version is $11.99. Geiser has opted to continue to carry Mimi's famous battered fish, named for the original owner of the facility, Mary George.

Assorted salads, pastas and Mexican favorites such as fajita and quesadillas are available. The smokin' streak house burger is a favorite of many.

Flipside uses only oils with no trans-fat in preparation. Desserts vary but normally include cheesecake and pies.

Among his employees is day kitchen manager, Ellen Hootman and head server, Patti Cary.

The classy red, white and black decor is "flipped" or opposite the main dining area in the smaller front dinning room that is available for private gatherings. Call 330-866-5003 for more information.

The restaurant will soon have its license to serve beer with the meals.

Geiser and his wife Stephanie have four children, Kaylee, age 12, Cameron, age 11, Eli, age 10 and Kearah, age 3.
