PIKE TOWNSHIP NEEDS A VOICE AGAINST MINING!!!!!!

Published:

Pike Township Trustees to hear text change,(600ft set back for surface mining from a residential property line instead of a 150ft set back). Oct 15th at 7:30pm. Pike Township hall. 7134 East Sparta ave. East Sparta.

The only question for Wednesday nights meeting is do you want a surface or mining operation,(gravel pit) for 5,10 or 20 years; 50 yards from you families, parents or even a friend's house? If not, show up and support these setbacks, because they will protect the value of our homes, our families and ALL OF PIKE TOWNSHIP.

This setback is not going to stop mining or add any additional cost because the people who mine can still get a variance, if it is the right place to mine. If it is the wrong place to mine at least we can have a 600 foot buffer.

I realized in this last year the people's frustration who have tried to stop mining in Pike township, and I now know that we can not stop mining because they know every loophole and have the deep pockets to get what they want. They also know the people who show up to stop a gravel pit from starting are showing up for the first time and that leaves them and their lawyers with the upper hand.

If you have lived around mining you already know how important these setbacks are, but if you don't think it will happen, go for a walk and look around because as of now stripping can start just 50 yards from a residential property line. This setback will protect us now and in the future!!

Stark County Regional Planning overwhelmingly recommended approval of this setback. Our own zoning commission voted 3-1 in favor of this setback. Now let's show up for the final meeting with our elected Trustees to finally have a fair and legal setback in Pike township!!!

Again, I thank everyone who helped get this far and have showed up at the meetings, but now is the time to bring a family member, talk to a neighbor and ask a friend for support because we need it for this meeting.

THANK YOU,

Paul Mosberger
