Brenda Jones, a Canton South High School graduate, recently took The Press-News on a two-week trip to Ireland, Scotland and England.
While on the trip she stayed at the haunted Cabra Castle in Kingcourt County, Cavan, Ireland. Historical information and reasons why people believe the castle is haunted are as follows:
In the 1780s the local people of Dun Na Ri witnessed the unfolding of the tragic saga which was to become the legend of the ghost which still haunts the Cabra Castle to this present day. The Original owners of the castle had a daughter and two sons, one of whom fell in love with a servant girl named Sarah. In true Romeo and Juliet- style, it was a passionate but secret love. The secret was broken when Sarah became pregnant, her lovers' family ordered that she be killed. It is said that in the dead of the night, the haunting cries of a baby may still be heard in the Cabra Castle. This story is believed by many local people and the staff that work at Cabra Castle, some of whom claim they have even seen her.
