NORMAL, Ala. (AP) -- Aaron Clayborn scored 18 points and Texas Southern held off Alabama A&M 64-62 Saturday.
The Tigers (14-14, 13-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led 58-46 with 7:56 remaining, but allowed eight consecutive points over the ensuing 2 ½ minutes. Omar Strong ended the run with a layup for a 59-56 advantage with 3:34 left.
After a Bulldogs' layup made it 59-58, Texas Southern ran off four straight points for a 63-58 lead with 2:02 left.
Alabama A&M's Nicholas West hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 63-62 with 9 seconds remaining. The Tigers' Law Johnson-Danner grabbed the rebound from the miss, was fouled and hit 1 of 2 at the line to end the scoring.
Clayborn was 9-of-11 shooting. Ray Penn added 11 points and Fred Sturdivant 10.
Brandon Ellis led the Bulldogs (9-17, 5-10) with 16 points and Jeremy Crutcher added 1.
